Practice Does Not Always Make Perfect

A rare statement from me today - Happy Monday!!  Yep, it is a UK Bank Holiday so the majority of UK residents have a bonus day away from work.  Sorry to those who are being forced to go in to work today, I hope it's not too awful for you.

Now then, practice makes perfect.  Apparently.  You see, my problem is I gaze longingly at blogs of very talented crafters and am inspired by many of them.  Today's card was a stamp purchased because of one of those drooling sessions (thanks Coops) - the moment I saw it I just knew I had to have it.  And that's where the trouble starts you see.

Despite spending hours looking at what these inspiring bloggers create, and trust me, there are some truly gifted colourists out there, and I do mean gifted, I practice and practice and practice like a good little squirrel, and somehow, I just don't seem to ever be able to get the end result to look how I want it to.  Is it the perfectionist in me?  (it's a very small part, believe me)  Who knows.  Here is the end result of several hours with the pencils.

The stamp is Sugar Nellie - Dress Up Games
Painstakingly coloured with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils
Papers are LOTV/Nitwits Shabbyshack
Memory Box Bamboo die
Unbranded tiny butterfly punch

We're popping out now to try and find some bedding plants.  Toad put together one of those temporary small greenhouse arrangements - a plastic tent over a metal framework - so we at least have somewhere to protect the baby plants from torrential rain and inquisitive starlings, and hopefully hungry slugs.

Hope you are having a super duper day folks

Hugs, Squirrel xx

I think there's a perfectionist and then there's another whole level which you've put yourself on, cos this is lovely in my amateur opinion. There's shading under her jumper (oo-er missus!) under her hat, and in the sleeve. What's not to like? Seriously hun, you're too harsh on yourself. Goodness knows what people must think of my efforts if yours isn't up to scratch!! Love the soft papers too, and yes, the die is 'to die for'! :0)

Have fun in your garden, I've just spent 3 hours digging up wild garlic. 8 sack fulls, and two trug buckets of stamped down thorny hedge clippings. Ooooh the stamping down was good therapy for all the scratches it inflicted on my arm on Saturday when I was chopping it down. :0)

That's me done now methinks. Where's me paintbrush? :0)

I think your coloring is fabulous. If anything, it is the background papers that aren't doing your image justice.

I think you have to talk to the perfectionist in yourself and tell her to keep silent; your colouring is awesome, and the card lovely,

My goodness Squirrel! You are FAR too hard on yourself. I think your colouring of that sweet image is fabulous - honestly. I love the pretty papers too.
I hope you have had a nice long weekend.
big hugs Sue xx

I think I have that sweet image, want to use her now, such soft pretty colours. Your card is lovely. My personal opinionis that I have yet to see anyone's image coloured just with pencils that look as vibrant as when used in conjunction with markers or DIs

I think you are being too hard on yourself as you have done a lovely job on the shading here. That said, I can relate to the perfectionist in you. I spent most of yesterday 'trying' to colour an image and there are currently four versions in the bin! This is a fab card, I like the flower detail too.

Hope you had a nice BH. Construction is underway...

Looks lovely to me hun, but I know what you mean - I'm just not good enough with pencils, but I never seem to get the time to practice. It's a fab card :o) Hugs, Lisa x

Don't put yourself down my friend, there's nothing wrong with your colouring, your card is certainly gorgeous! Lol, if you want easy, brain dead colouring, you'll have to try out my latest love, Eunice and Ramsey! Not much in the way if colouring skill needed with these babies, I love them!
