Now, I don't know about you, but if there were a book version of Desert Island Discs, I would be hard pressed to choose my favourite books to take with me. Oh I have favourites, of course I do, but I am not sure that I could narrow the list down to just 8 or 10.
I love to read and I will read just about anything. Over the years I dread to think how much I have spent in bookstores. Toad reckons that Waterstones introduced their loyalty card because of me! And I am one of these people that cringe when I see page corners turned over or a paperback folded in half with the front cover curled round over the back cover while someone is reading it. I recently loaned one of the Girl Who series to my friend. It left me looking pristine, you could hardly tell that it had been read as the spine wasn't even creased, so when it came back looking like it had been on a four month camping holiday in Outer Mongolia I nearly cried.
Sometimes I have three or four books on the go at the same time, and thus I use an awful lot of bookmarks. The current trend for bookmarks seems to be these little magnetic jobs and I have to admit they are brilliant, if a little expensive for such a tiny thing, so I thought I'd have a go at making my own slightly larger version.
This stamp from Greeting Farm just had to be used. Painted in Distress Inks and cut with Nesties and mounted on a piece of Dovecraft paper from stash. I then matted that on a piece of Basic Grey from the Max & Whiskers pad. I cut a piece of paper for the back from another pad and laid them out carefully in a laminating pouch, leaving a small gap between the two where the top would be. Once it had been through the laminator, I trimmed it down to size and then carefully scored gently several times in that gap between the two sheets of paper to form the fold.
As the magnetic fastener, I used a pair of Basic Grey magnetic snaps that I've had kicking around for ages. This is the inside with the snaps in place.
And just to prove it really does work ....
I've been using it all week and unlike the little ones, it's harder to lose! Not sure how long it will last before the laminate splits but it seems fairly tough.

Oo I love this idea !
I'm like you, I eat books, I go through 2 to 3 every week without fail, it causes problems you know, im now in the situation where 10yrs past the last time I did it.. I need to have a clear out of books and box a lot up to go out to the charity shops, trouble is.. each one ends up containing a little part of you so trying to decide who stays and who goes is a nightmare.
Me.. teasing... only a little... Might be able to spill the beans today if we get all the contract & offical stuff over and done with.

I'm just as fussy with books as you especially turned down corners. They make me cringe. Since I started cardmaking I don't read as many books as I did but I always have one on the go and must have one ready for when I have finished it. I love this bookmark and would love to make some. Don't have a laminator though. Marianne x
oooo fantastic bookmark squirrel.love how you have the magnetic fastner and laminated cover.brilliant image too, i`m an avid reader too, i love to lose myself in a good book :D
xx coops xx
Is it strange that the moment I read "I recently loaned one" I started feeling sick? I admit - I'm stingy with my books. And my favorite DVDs. I'm not a library, and although stuff is not as important as people, I prefer to keep my relationships with people good by keeping my stuff to myself. LOL Very clever bookmark - I can see some of these in my nieces' stockings this year. They're avid readers, too! =)
Hubby used to cringe if I said I was going to the book store...he'd much rather I went clothes shopping, he knew it would be cheaper!! I can see a bunch of these in my future, great job!

Fantastic bookmark! Perfect image and so beautifully colored. I feel the same about books as you do. My DH says my bookshelves look like a bookstore because none of my books show any sign of having been read. I've lost so many bookmarks over the years I started using scraps of ribbon to mark my place, they stay put a lot better but this looks like a great idea.

Hi Squirrel,
I have three books on the go at the moment, i'm really glad that it isn't just me that does this. Me and the kids go to the library every week, but I don't often get books out, but me and the kids are all big readers, and thankfully there is only me that has a thing about being the first to read the book. I hate anyone reading the book first so I mainly buy all my books and then can't part with them. I have gone back and read books again, so not a total waste.
Gorgeous bookmark, a really great idea and that image is fabulous.
Happy crafting
