Morning all, and a Happy Good Friday to you! I had a nice lie-in this morning and didn't shed the dressing gown until an hour ago. We are having a pootling about morning, and then this afternoon we will be off to Church for Good Friday Mass. Hope that whatever you are up to it is enjoyable.
When Toad and I attended evening art classes, one thing that our tutor always said to me was not to be afraid of shadows. But I am. Still. It takes a certain kind of bravery to start adding darkness. I began playing with this image last weekend, and have been slowly working away at it. I would do a bit, leave it for a while, come back and have another look, do a bit more, walk away, come back, add more. Last night, I reached the point where I thought I don't know what else I can do without totally mucking up what I have done so far, so I have left it now and am calling it finished. Although there are many artists out there who will scoff with undisguised amusement at my efforts. I am still learning with these darned pencils, and it is a steep learning curve!

Yes, you do have a lot to learn hun.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, your creations bring a lot of joy to those of us who visit you, and, secondly, your colouring is great. The shadows around her bum and legs are absolutely spot on, the light is all coming from the same direction and she looks great. Even a little shadow under her nose and chin. And her legs. It's spot on hun, stop procrastinating and enjoy your visit to the "dark side" :0)
Hope you had a lovely day hun. We've got a beef stew that's been bubbling away in the slow cooker all day, and it's making the house smell yummy. Unfortunately it's making me feel hungry, but I can't have any until my dad comes over to join us for dinner. The best I've just been offered to tide me over in the meantime is a flippin' apple.
Pah!
Hun, I've also just noticed the blue accents on her glasses to show the glass. Hun, she's perfect. Stop worrying. That's an order. :0)
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautie queen you are sharing today, love her,

Some day we'll find a way to shut up that internal critic of yours... LOL Til then I'll just go shouting from the rooftops about the fabulously fantastic Squirrel and her talents!!! This card's so much FUN and I love the colors you chose. Sandy Allnock is an artist totally not afraid of shadows. If you haven't watched or seen her cards you might enjoy her playing with the darkness. I'm learning loads from her. Hugs & best Hoppy wishes, sweet Squirrel!
ReplyDeleteThink your art classes are working and you are hard on yourself as I think this looks great. I'm no artist but once I've decided on my image I just imagine the sunshine or light shining from one direction and imagine where the shadows would fall I then cheat and use my promarker blender to add highlights to the bits where the sun shines brightest. I'm not sure this works all the time but I can kid myself it does.Have a fab weekend.
ReplyDeletelove this funny lady lol, a fab card

ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous to me hun, and I love this fun image! I really need to practise more with my pencils - I can't quite get skin tones to look right, so it puts me off using them. Hugs, Lisa x

Fabulous card Squirrel, love that image and your shadows look good to me :o)
ReplyDeleteJackie xx
The colouring on this is rubbish, the shadows are too dark, the image is old and the whole things sucks!
ReplyDeleteThat's not what you want to hear is it and it wouldn't be, because this is FABULOUS and your colouring is ALWAYS top notch.
Have a lovely weekend and keep colouring :)
I'm glad to see you pulling on your big girl pants and facing your colouring fears... and you should be very proud of the result - it's brilliant! I LOVE the shading, especially the shadows on the inside of the cape - absolutely spot on!
ReplyDeleteI also love the wonderful CAS design and funny sentiment :-)
Big hugs, Kat xx
