Morning all. Got the hatches battened down ready for the forecasted storm tomorrow night then? Toad came home from work last night with the most depressing news that most of the lads in his office weren't even born or were too young to remember the last big one of 1987! I confess, I slept through the 1987 one and remember being surprised to find the bird table at the other end of the garden......!
Anyhoo, you know I am often prepared to share my disasters with you - and this one taught me a couple of lessons.
Lesson 1 - Distress Inks do not dry as fast on an October evening as they do in the summer. Who heard the wails of despair as Chipped Sapphire bled into Scattered Straw?
Lesson 2 - Blue ink does not lift off! Some stray colours you can remove with a clean, damp paintbrush, but blue? Oooh no, blue sticks like glue!
Lesson 3 - Learn to know when to stop, bin it, and start again.
Image is an LOTV stamp James: Snowman
Image painted with Distress Inks (ReInkers)
Edges inked with DI Tumbled Glass
Tag die was a magazine freebie
Sentiment is from a Hero Arts set
Papers are First Edition
X-Cut small snowflake punch
Baker's Twine
Centre panel lifted with foam pads for dimension
So, looking at James' face, what do you see? Yes, that stubborn Chipped Sapphire
"Oh" said Toad "It's ok, he's in the snow, he's cold"
"Yes dear" says I "But he's cold - not dead!"
I added pink cheeks to cheer him up a bit but think all I did was turn him into a zombie bear.
Sorry James!
Hugs, Squirrel xx
I'm thinking the same as Toad : when one is really cold, one can be a bit blue...
ReplyDeleteCould he possibly have been eating a blue ice lolly? You know the kind that make your tongue go blue? I think he's adorable and the shading on the snowman is perfect. I find white such a hard colour to get right. The sentiment had to make me smile though as James does look far from warm! It's a fab card honey, please don't throw it away.
ReplyDeleteOh brilliant hun, i so love your sense of humour, the bear and snowman look adorable and a great layout too.
ReplyDeleteI know how Toad feels when last year when it was the Jubilee, son was given a mug from the school, and i mentioned been there done that had got 1 from the Silver Jubilee and i was asked when was that ??, Luv Sam x
I think it's gorgeous, and I didn't notice the blue face at all :D And anyway, I had a photoshoot in January in a REALLY cold studio and I was so cold that my hands are literally blue, white and purple in all the pics lol, so James was probably just really cold from building his snowman :D :D
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend :)

Oh Squirrel, you really are being far to hard on yourself. Your colouring looks fabulous and the blue on James' face hardly shows, it could just be a reflection for his scarf.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have added the tag too.
I had only just started work when we had the last storm. I hope this one won't be so bad.
hugs Sue xx
I didn't even notice the blue until you made me go look for it! Hope the storm doesn't cause too much damage. (I do remember the one in '87, although I slept through it too!) :)
ReplyDeleteHe is just adorable Squirrel and I would not have noticed the blue either..but did enjoy reading your post..so funny..fabulous card.

If you hadn't pointed it out I wouldn't have noticed, in fact I'm still struggling. As my Granny used to say - a blind man would be pleased to see it lol.

This is so gorgeous sweetie and he doesn't look dead to me but he might look a lot bluer IRL. Lol!!! I remember the 1987 bad storm. Hubby couldn't get back from Germany as the airports here were closed and I couldn't get to work as the trees were all down across the road and the buses couldn't get through to the next village.

Blue or not I'd still be happy to receive this card I love how vibrant your cards look but as yet mainly as I'm not confident in my painting skills and am not sure which re-inkers to buy or where to buy them I haven't ventured into trying painting with re-inkers but I so love the look of your cards thanks for sharing and don't forget if this James needs a home he can come here lol.
ReplyDeleteWell, you could add a tinge of black soot to his muzzle and the tips of his ears and make him a black-tipped brown bear. =) LOL But he's still cute regardless, blue nose and all. Can't wait to get inky soon and try my hand at this one myself. Soon...! Love, Beansie
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have notched the blue face had you not mentioned it..such a lovely card lovely image
